Often it's acceptable, depending on lodging arrangements, to arrive a day prior to the first service. Sometimes it's preferable to arrive the day of the first service. For example, if the first service is on a Friday evening, you might enter Thursday as the earliest date. This gives John the option of flying on Thursday or early Friday.

The later in the day John can travel, the better. However, he would like to arrive no later than 3 hours prior to the first service.
